Anima Clinical Scribe

At Vel Surgery we are committed to delivering the best possible care to our patients. To improve the efficiency of our consultations, we are working to get the best from modern technology whilst retaining our traditional high quality service for our patients. 

In July 2026 we will start to use Anima Clinical Scribe a secure digital system which uses artificial intelligence. Anima runs in the background of consultations listening to the conversations between doctors and patients. It automatically generates clinical notes, medical summaries, and referral letters. 

Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board and NHS England support practices to modernise the way in which we work.  Anima is used by many General Practices across the UK and several of our own doctors have had the opportunity to try this way of working.

Why do we want to use Anima?

Patients’ needs are becoming increasingly complex and good medical records are essential.

Anima generates the clinical notes and other documents like referral documents and reports very accurately. 

Anima will allow your doctor to focus directly on you. They can be actively listening to your concerns and your care rather than typing during the appointment. 

Consultations are transcribed into draft medical notes while they happen, so that no voice recordings are ever stored. Your doctor will always review and approve the notes that have been captured by Anima before adding them to the patient record.

Privacy and data security 

Your information will be handled securely and confidentially. Anima will only processes information discussed during your appointment

Before using Anima Clinical Scribe during your appointment, your doctor will explain and ask for your verbal consent. 

You have the right to decline its use at any time. If you decline the doctor will type the notes manually instead

Anima Clinical Scribe complies with UK and NHS data protection regulations and digital clinical safety standards (DCB0129 and DCB0160).  At Vel Surgery our Clinical Safety Officer, a senior doctor in the practice who has undertaken special training has reviewed the processes to ensure compliance.
